There were many decisions taken by the IPL Governing Council that met on last Sunday, December 11, 2011. IPL Auction for 2012 will be soon. According to IPL Chairman Rajeev Shukla the auction will be on February 4 2012. The franchises can now have 33 players (3 players more) instead of 33 and the teams will be allowed to have 11 foreign players.
From this edition the franchises will have matches set as home and away. The nine IPL franchises or teams will play 16 matches each; of these 8 matches will be played at home by respective teams. The change implies that the fifth edition will revert back to the original format of the IPL; where in every team will play other team two times. While the ambiguity about Kochi team continues the 27 players of the said franchise will go into the players’ auction pool.
Besides, from this season there will be 4 play-off matches which will be held in Bangalore and Chennai. This makes the total number of matches to 76 up compared to previous edition. As you are aware, IPL 5 will start from April 04, 2012 will go till May 27, 2011, and the first match will be played at Chennai.
